New release from Charming Baker
In November we welcomed Jealous favourite, Charming Baker, back to Jealous Print Studio to work on two new editions to be launched at the London Art Fair 2017. Following his sell-out exhibition at Sotheby’s S2 Gallery ‘Sweet Nothing’ , a plan was made to create the most embellished Baker print works to date. Referencing his original painting ‘Nellephant (Portrait of Artist’s Daughter)’, which formed part of the S2 Gallery solo show and features his daughter in an elephant mask, we initially planned for the edition to be printed only onto birch ply. This soon developed into two versions of the work, one on board and one on fine art cotton paper, each slightly different but equally as alluring.
To begin, Baker hand painted the backgrounds of each birch ply sheet using black ink. This provided a unique base for the various hand drawn layers to sit upon as the edition took shape. As with many of the editions completed with Baker, experimentation is key. While playing with different mediums and embellishments, it was decided that to really set the wooden work apart, a 24 carat gold leaf frame should be applied to the surround of the print on board, giving a glow to each work. For both the wood and paper editions we have used a technique called flocking, which is the application of cotton fibres to the print surface, leaving a smooth velvet-like finish.
Using this embellishment the studio have transferred Baker’s signature patterns to complete the beautiful print works, giving a tactile finish to the editions. Lastly, each print work is made more unique by the addition of hand sprayed acrylic and graphite pencil marks by the artist. After many months of experimentation and proofing Jealous are delighted to finally reveal the finished editions.
With multiple layers of hand-finishing and layers of various mediums, the result is a truly decedent edition of the highest quality. Jealous are delighted to publish and release this work, with each print unique it truly is a special edition for all Charming Baker fans and collectors.

Ann-Marie James: ALCHEMY
Alchemy is an exhibition of beautiful contemporary artworks by Ann-Marie James.
Wessex Museums invited Ann-Marie James to delve into the collections of their four partner museums (Wiltshire Museum, Dorset County Museum, Poole Museum and The Salisbury Museum) and choose an object from each to inspire a series of artworks.
She spent a year creating the finished pieces, all in gold or white. Gold derives from the Bush Barrow Lozenge (Wiltshire Museum) and the tale of Bacchus and Midas (Poole Museum); white from the chalk that the Amesbury Archer (The Salisbury Museum) was originally found in, and the white of the Roman mosaic (Dorset County Museum).
Her techniques included drawing, painting, printmaking and gilding with 24ct gold leaf.
