Design Icon Margaret Calvert completed her second print with Jealous Print Studio, a huge reworking of her Man at Work road sign.

In the 1960s, the British typographer and graphic designer Margaret Calvert designed a brand-new signage system for roads in the UK. Her iconic signs are still in place today, and her ‘Man at Work’ road sign provided the inspiration for her painting ‘Woman at Work’, created in 2008.

Calvert’s ‘Woman at Work’ was then translated into a 16 colour screenprint in the Jealous Print Studio. Here Margaret tells us more about her experience of working with Jealous:

‘Not every project I’ve been involved in turns out as brilliantly as my ‘Woman at Work’ print; having started life as an abandoned roadworks sign (jokingly referred to as a man having difficulty with a large umbrella) and ending up as a painting in the Royal Academy’s 2008 Summer exhibition. Now translated into a magnificent print by the superb skills of Matthew Rich, giving it a completely new dimension. The experience of working with the Jealous team has been inspirational.’

Woman at Work is her first commercial release as a print but follows previous work in the Jealous Print Studio with Margaret on a screen print, a page from her sketch book, for design agency Pentagram in 2009.
