#TGBP is a competition for designers, artists and photographers to create a design for a Great British Postcard. Whatever it means to be British in
2017, creatives are invited to share their visions with a chance to win £5,000 – and have their work seen by John Lydon, the iconic figure behind the
Sex Pistols and Public Image Ltd. Saxoprint ProStudio has devised the competition as a challenge for people to express their unique view of contemporary
life in Great Britain, with entries submitted in the form of a traditional postcard, uploaded online.
Included in this years competition is a piece by artist John Sheehy. John discovered painting through workshops offered by the Big Issue, a magazine that raises money for the homeless.
From 1965 until 1989, Sheehy worked as a builder and roofer. He first began to paint and write poetry in 1999. He has exhibited with the Stuckists and British surrealists and his poetry has been broadcast on the BBC. Painting, he believed, was something done by 'other people', however the workshops gave him the confidence to progress with his work.
John's piece, entitled 'Soot', reflects a 1960's London from the point of view of a chimney sweep, atop a rooftop overlooking the city. The competition will be taking entries until August 31st, and then voting will commence.
