Joe’s images juxtapose vintage magazine cut-outs and printed ephemera to create surreal dream-like scenes. This past year, Joe’s work has reached viral status online, with a number of sell-out print releases, leading to international gallery exposure and solo shows at both Hang-Up and Saatchi Gallery in London.
For those who are yet to experience Joe’s original hand-cut works in the flesh, this exhibition gives audiences a rare chance to see his handiwork: the delicate layering smartly juxtaposed against the strong social and politically loaded messages he often seeks to convey. His signature style will also be conveyed through various mediums, featuring brand new print editions from the Jealous Print Studio and freshly painted canvases, prepared for launch at the highly anticipated show.
“[Joe] flirts with the themes of nostalgia and loss but ultimately composes lighthearted images that are in dialogue with today’s sampling culture, collapsing and hacking together sources from across the universe in fun and rudely jacked up color schemes.”
— WangechiMutu, internationally acclaimed artist
