Jessica Harrison

Jessica Harrison lives and works in Edinburgh and is currently undertaking a practice-based PhD in sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. In 2010 Jessica’s work was selected for the exhibition UKYA showcasing the best of young British artists as well as being part of the Milestone exhibition which toured the UK from Yorkshire Sculpture Park, to the Pier Arts Centre in Orkney, to the Cass Sculpture Park in Sussex. Harrison was the recipient of the RSA Kinross Scholarship (2005), the SNGMA John Watson Prize (2005) and was the first Black Church International lithography artist-in-residence, Dublin (2008). She comments ‘I would describe my work as focusing on the division between the familiar and the unfamiliar, the interior and the exterior, and the fearful and the feared ending in a xenotransplantation of parts and a narrative of monstrosity. Portraits of fear, dislocated from the body – the work is the result of a guilty surveillance, an observation of that which is private, a peep show of anxiety.’
