David Koppel

David Koppel served his photographic apprenticeship in the rough-and-tumble world of the Fleet Street paparazzo in 1980’s London where his skills captured the very essence of the ‘me’ decade that gave birth to the celebrity culture of today. Koppel’s classic photographs of Sinatra, Brando, the Rolling Stones, Bowie, Paul McCartney, Muhammed Ali, Jack Nicholson, and Eric Clapton, amongst many others, appeared in every major newspaper and magazine and marked him out as that rarity among press photographers; the artist with a camera. Merging press passes, ticket stubs, VIP passes, invitations and related ephemera with the original images, Koppel has translated his commercial work into a fine art practice.
