Jonathan Trayte graduated from the Royal Academy of Arts in 2010 with an Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art. He studied B.A (Hons) Fine Art at Kent Institute of Art and Design graduating in 2004. “Tradition of the bronze sculpture as weighty currency (historically, financially, physically) is re-thought and dressed for here and now. Using food and confectionary as source material, Trayte’s semi-figurative bronze sculptures are coated with a multitude of meticulous painted layers. These glossy, synthetic ‘skins ‘ of paint give the work a colourful pop status, a chameleon appearance and an almost edible quality. The coming together of natural form and saccharine colour generates an awkward physical presence, evidence of nature and culture mutation that is alarming as it is seductive.” Jonathan Trayte, September 2010 Jonathan’s Jealous Prize print edition is now held in the Victoria & Albert Museum Permanent Print Collection.
