Damien Hirst's recent sale at Sotheby's broke the record for a one-artist auction, netting profit of £111 million. Hirst first came to prominence as a key member of the YBA group of artist in the early 1990s. His work is now world renowned and is held in the collections of major contemporary art institutions such as Tate Modern, the ICA and the MoMA. Credited with reinventing the British art scene, Hirst is also the orignator of the Frieze art fair and its accompanying publications.
