Patrick Caulfield is an English painter and printmaker. Typically Caulfield's work is figurative, portraying still lifes of a few objects and an interior in his signature style of flat areas of colour surrounded by strong black outlines. Caulfield studied at the Chelsea School of Art and then at the Royal Academy of Art where his fellow pupils included David Hockney and R. B. Kitaj. Caulfield was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1987, and was made a CBE in 1996. His work has influenced many artists including Julian Opie and Michael Craig-Martin and is held in the collections of the Tate, the Waddington Gallery and Charles Saatchi.
