Christo is a Bulgarian artist. Working with his wife, Jean Claude, his work focusses around environmental installations, particularly their own concept of 'wrapping'. Covering and binding large buildings such as the Reichstag in Berlin and the Pont Neuf in Paris with fabric and rope, Christo and Jean Claude's work has been described as 'revelation through concealment'. Emphasising the architectural qualities and the positioning of buildings in landscapes their work attempts to beautify and reinvent. Their most recent project in New York's Central Park (featured in the prints available through Jealous) created a series of 7'503 gates defined by orange silk banners hung to create walkways.
Christo and Jean Claude's work is held in many important collections of modern art, including that of the Pompidou Centre, Paris, the Tate and the MoMa, New York and the National Art Centre, Tokyo.
