Tarek Salhany grew up in Beirut, Lebanon and graduated in 2009 from the BA fine art degree at Byam Shaw, London. His degree show sculpture, a massive welded metal tank was briefly on display overlooking the Gormet Burger Kitchen and the Queens Head in Crouch End. The etchings that accompany the sculptural tank are on display at Jealous. As part of smallprint Tarek has produced a new series of tanks as silkscreen editions at the Jealous Studio. Some are drawn from memories of the tanks that populated Beirut during the artist’s childhood, others are invented hybrid versions. The tanks form a simultaneous archive of childhood and conflict, occupying realms of both personal and political history.
The editions are limited to 12 prints, 6 on grey 310gsm Somerset paper, and 6 on white 510gsm textured Somerset paper. Tarek has also produced some very special one off prints featuring his favourite selections of tanks. Screenprints start at £20.00 unframed, etchings at £120.00
